Alioune Tine is the founder of the think tank Afrikajom Center whose objective is to strengthen the capacities of States, CSOs, national and regional human rights institutions. He holds a doctorate in linguistics and semiology of communication and texts, and has been a United Nations independent expert on the human rights situation in Mali since 2018. Former President of RADDHO from 1998 to 2013 and President of the Senegalese Human Rights Committee from 2013 to 2015, he became Amnesty International’s Regional Director for West and Central Africa from 2015 to 2018. Among other experiences, Alioune taught at the Centre d’Etudes des Sciences et Techniques de l’Information (CESTI) from 1984 to 2005 and was a professor at the Faculty of Letters and Humanities at Cheikh Anta Diop University from 1981 to 2009. Coordinator for Africa and the Black Diaspora at the World Conference against Racism in Durban, he also coordinated the observation of the 1998 legislative elections, the 2000 presidential elections and the 2007 presidential elections for RADDHO. Alioune Tine has published books and articles on literature, politics and human rights.
